Tal Haim

Founder & Director

I’m Tal, the director and founder of Where The Wild Things Are. I wear many different hats, and my roles in the organisation span from client liaison to forest school practitioner, and kit repairperson to social media manager!

I have over a decade of experience in outdoor and experiential education, and a wealth of knowledge in teaching practices, learning theories, and developmental psychology.

My Story

My love of all things outdoors began in my teens. I spent my weekends and school holidays hiking, camping, and experiencing the natural world with a youth group that promoted environmental stewardship, responsible citizenship, and a love for nature. There I developed an understanding of human-nature connectedness, and began to dream of a career promoting these values and passing on my passion to others.

Before Where The Wild Things Are was even a twinkle in my eye, I began building a strong foundation of experience working in outdoor and experiential education all over the world. In diverse roles ranging from managing high ropes courses to leading multi-day backpacking and paddling trips I honed my group management, environmental education, and bushcraft skills. When I settled in Scotland, I took on a deputy manager role at an outdoor centre in the Scottish Borders before moving to Aviemore in Autumn 2024.

In everything I’ve done throughout my career, the one common thread has been my wholehearted confidence in the power of outdoor learning. I believe that traditional classroom learning cannot foster empathy, problem solving skills, and creativity in the same way that outdoor learning can. Using the Forest School ethos, I seek to nurture these traits, instil stewardship, and create a sense of wonder to inspire the next generation of environmental changemakers.
